PRESIDENT

Shri Chandra Wadhwa, has been elected President of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India for 2007-2008. He was Vice-President of the Institute for 2006-2007.

Shri Wadhwa is a leading practicing Cost Accountant from New Delhi. An M.Com and LL.B from Delhi University, Shri Wadhwa is a Fellow Member of ICWAI and ICSI.

Before taking up practice, Shri Wadhwa served several public and private sector organizations in senior positions. He undertook various professional assignments in the areas of costing system development and management, project finance, management audit, cost benefit analysis, MIS etc. He is also Promoter-Director of Wadhwa Financial Services (P) Limited.

Shri Wadhwa served several committees of the Council. He held positions as Chairman-Cost Accounting Standard Board, Chairman-WTO and International Affairs Committee, Members of Public Sector Coordination Committee, Executive Committee and Examination Committee.

He is the Chairman of the Task Force formed by the Ministry of Company Affairs for The Institute of Valuers, Member of the Committee formed by the Ministry of Commerce on Indo-UK Accountancy Sector, Member of the Committee formed by the Ministry of Company Affairs on Opening of Accountancy Sector in GATS regime, Member of the Committee of CII on WTO.

A prolific writer, Shri Wadhwa presented several papers at various Conferences, Seminars and Training Programmes organized by Corporate Organizations, Industry Associations as well as Institutes like ICWAI, banks and financial institutes. He has also presented papers on Opportunities and Challenges for Accounting Sector under WTO at Lahore seminar of SAFA. Important among his works is a Study on Working Capital Management of Oil India Limited and a paper on Implications of WTO presented at an ICWAI Seminar addressed to Public and Private Sector Organizations.


Vice-President

Shri Kunal Banerjee has been elected Vice-President of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India for 2007-2008. He did his graduation from Presidency College Calcutta with Honours in Economics. Further he is a Fellow Member of the ICWAI and ICAI. He is a Practicing Cost Accountant and a Partner of Shome & Banerjee, Cost Accountants, Kolkata. Shri Banerjee was the Central Council Member of the Institute from 1995 to 2004 and held the post of Vice-President for the years 1998-99 and 2001-02.

Shri Banerjee was one of the members of the Core Committee which was formed to give opinions/suggestions in the amendment of Companies Bill 1997 and was instrumental to incorporate many constructive suggestions. His interactions with the authorities while the Bill was under preparation, gave important strength to the arguments placed on behalf of the profession for incorporation of the provisions relating to Cost Audit and other relevant matters that were positively oriented towards the future growth of the Profession.

He has represented the Institute in the Executive Committee, Examination Committee, Membership Committee, Training & Educational Facilities Committee, Professional Development Committee, Professional Development Technical Committee, Research & Journal Committee, ICWAI-ICAI-ICSI Co-ordination Committee, and Cost Accounting Standards Board. He was also nominated as Member of the Accounting Standards Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He was appointed Group Leader of the Task Force constituted for drafting the Accounting Standards on Agriculture by the Accounting Standards Board of ICAI. He was instrumental in computerizing different activities of the ICWAI including the Examination, Accounting and Membership departments of the Institute.

He has represented ICWAI in International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), and Confederation of Asian & Pacific Accountants (CAPA). He was the Co-Chairman of the Organising Committee of SAFA Conference held in Kolkata in 1997. He has been a speaker at different Seminars and Conferences organized by the ICWAI and was invited as a Speaker by the CII to place his views on Cost Audit and related issues.

His vision is to re-position the Institute in the global context by blending the Cost and Management Accountancy profession with information technology. He wishes to work towards the establishment of a conglomeration of Global Management Accountancy Bodies.
